St. Francis Regional Medical Center Nurses Mary Bothof and Joel Aronson Receive March of Dimes Nurse of the Year Awards

The March of Dimes recognized nurses throughout Minnesota at the 5th annual Nurse of the Year Awards to raise funds to support the mission to improve the health of babies. Patients, friends, and co-workers nominated nurses in 16 categories including the Distinguished Nurse of the Year.  St Francis had 17 nominees this year.  Over 600 people gathered to honor nurses at the gala dinner on October 25, 2014 at the Marriott Northwest in Brooklyn Center.

Two St. Francis Regional Medical Center nurses were among those named Nurse of the Year.  Joel Aronson received honors for Staff Nurse – General Care. Joel has been a key player in the establishment of St. Francis’ outpatient Wound, Ostomy and Foot Care Clinic; a response to a real need in the community.

Mary Bothof received honors for Community Health Nursing. Mary has been a nursing advocate and volunteer for the River Valley Nursing Center since its inception in 2003. Mary knows first-hand how this clinic changes lives. Patients are assessed and educated by a public health nursing staff. They are then connected to free and low-cost health care services for further care.

Hats off to all of the St Francis nurse nominees: Danielle Balducci, Jennifer Buel, Megan Buckentine, Tanya Gilbertsen, Nicole LaFontsee, Roger Marturano, Brittany Mueller, Mary Jo O'Malley, Kristina Pennertz, Nancy Pint, Rose Swanson, Susan Seifert, Patti Simones, Caroline Stacke, and Sharon Sunde.
