New Urgent Care facility open in busy Shakopee retail district

(SHAKOPEE, Minn.) Shakopee’s flourishing Southbridge Crossings retail area today welcomed its newest neighbor – an urgent care clinic opened by St. Francis Regional Medical Center to fill a need for more accessible health care services. Located near large retailers off of Highway 169 and County Road 21, between 10,000 and 12,000 patients are expected to visit the facility in its first year. Staffed primarily with physicians, patients will have access to services at the main St. Francis hospital, about five miles west of the clinic.

“As more people enter the community to live and work, it has created a need for an urgent care facility with daytime hours in this business district,” said Michael Morris, director of business development at St. Francis Regional Medical Center. “We are finding that many people in our community prefer unscheduled medical consultations to complement their busy and unpredictable lifestyles, and we are proud to provide this service at St. Francis Urgent Care – Southbridge.”

The City of Shakopee is a young community that is experiencing significant growth. The city’s population has grown by 93 percent since 2000, its median age is 32 years, and construction is currently underway to double the size of Shakopee High School. Since 2012, more than 7,000 new jobs have been created in the city, thanks in part to Amazon and Shutterfly’s new locations.

“When a community has access to high-quality medical care, it’s a win for businesses because our people are our greatest asset,” said Jamie Riddle, senior director of manufacturing operations at Shutterfly in Shakopee. “We are excited to welcome St. Francis’ new urgent care as our newest neighbor in this growing business community.”

Renovations for the $1.5 million urgent care facility began in early 2016, and the design of the space highlights the welcoming and peaceful atmosphere that St. Francis has come to be known for. With large windows and calming colors, St. Francis Urgent Care – Southbridge features four large exam rooms, a room for minor procedures, an x-ray room, and a full lab so that test results can immediately be completed onsite. Nitrous oxide is also available to help guests relax during procedures.

St. Francis Urgent Care – Southbridge will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays, and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends, complementing the hospital’s current on-campus urgent care hours of 5 p.m. to midnight on weekdays and 10 a.m. to midnight on weekends.
