Shakopee, MN – St. Francis Regional Medical Center announces the implementation a state-of-the-art mobile digital PET/CT scanner from United Imaging. Positron emission tomography (PET) is combined with a computed tomography (CT) scan to show images of the body tissues, anatomy and biological functions of the body to reveal stages of disease.

By using United Imaging’s uMI 550 mobile PET/CET technology, St. Francis will deliver the most advanced technology in the field, providing care patients would expect at a larger metro hospital, closer to home.

“We’re providing the mobile digital PET/CT because it is the highest, most modern standard of care and we believe the state-of-the-art technology will help better diagnose and treat patients right here in our community. Patients won’t need to drive to the Twin Cities for this advanced technology, meaning they can keep their care close to home,” says Jen Kroska, manager of diagnostic imaging and radiology at St. Francis Regional Medical Center.

United Imaging’s uMI 550 features faster scans that can detect smaller lesions with lower radiation doses, all while producing higher-quality images in a welcoming, comfortable environment. The system is designed to expand clinical capacity and allow healthcare providers to provide more exams for more patients.

The new technology is available to St. Francis through a partnership with Shared Medical Services (SMS) via a mobile unit stationed near the St. Francis Cancer Center. Through a strategic collaboration with United Imaging, SMS is the first in the United States to offer a mobile digital PET/CT unit.

Scans are available by appointment at St. Francis. Interested community members should speak to their providers about referral to the PET/CT scanner at St. Francis.
