No Adverse Health Events at St. Francis

St. Francis Regional Medical Center had no adverse health events in 2015

(Shakopee, February 22, 2016)  Sometimes it’s good not to be in the news. St. Francis Regional Medical Center was not listed in the Minnesota Department of Health's 2015 Adverse Health Events report released last week.

Minnesota has 29 reportable adverse health events that hospitals and licensed ambulatory surgical centers are required to report to the Minnesota Department of Health under these categories: surgical events, product or device events, patient protection events, care management events, environmental events, potential criminal events, and radiologic events. Leaders at St. Francis are pleased with the hospital’s report of no adverse health events.

“We are extremely proud of the safety culture we’ve built at St. Francis,” said Quality and Safety Director, Nancy Wolf. We work as a team to keep patients safe and continuously strive for improvements through our initiatives to provide the safest care possible.”

Work on several safety initiatives at St. Francis is paying off. For example, the inpatient falls with harm rate is the lowest it has ever been at the hospital. St. Francis has focused time and attention to nursing hourly rounding where planned toileting (patients not getting up out of bed themselves to go to the bathroom) and staying within arm’s reach (while patients are using the bathroom) to prevent falling. The hospital is making a difference through patient safety efforts.
