St. Francis Regional Medical Center receives two outstanding honors

Recognized for patient safety and experience

SHAKOPEE, Minn. (April 13, 2017) — St. Francis Regional Medical Center recently received two outstanding distinctions including Healthgrades’ 2017 Outstanding Patient Experience Award and The Leapfrog Group’s letter grade “A.” The awards recognize the hospital for its commitment and excellence in patient safety and experience.

“It’s an honor to be acknowledged for providing quality and safe care,” says Sue Miller, vice president of patient care services for St. Francis Regional Medical Center. “We’re committed to our patients, their families and our community, so being recognized for outstanding patient experience is equally significant.”

Healthgrades’ Outstanding Patient Experience Award recognizes hospitals that provide an overall outstanding patient experience—delivering a positive experience for patients during their hospital stay—as reported by patients. Like St. Francis, these hospitals are in the top 15 percent in the nation for overall patient experience. Nearly 3,500 hospitals submitted at least 100 patient experience surveys to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)—between April 2015 and March 2106—to identify the top performing hospitals.

“Our patients are informed and have the ability to make decisions about where they receive care,” says Miller. “Receiving this award is humbling…it validates that we’re providing great care, and our patients recognize that.”

St. Francis also received the top honor by The Leapfrog Group, earning an “A” for commitment to reducing errors, infections and accidents that can harm patients. Developed under the guidance of an Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 30 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign A, B, C, D and F grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It’s calculated by top patient safety experts, peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. St. Francis’ received an “A” rating since 2013.

According to Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group, “Hospitals that earn top marks nationally in the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, ‘have achieved the highest safety standards in the country.’”

Healthgrades is the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals. The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit organization driving a movement for giant leaps forward in the quality and safety of American health care.

“This takes commitment from everyone at St. Francis,” says Mike McMahan, president of St. Francis Regional Medical Center. “We should all be proud of providing the safe and quality care that our patients deserve.”
